Property Description
Souillac (Lot) – a Real One-off, Modern Cabin Style House & Apartment, High in the Treeline Overlooking the River Dordogne. Exclusive Mandat!
I hesitate to use the word unique, but this is so different from your typical French property. Set in an elevated position well above the River Dordogne, this modern property of around 15-20 years enjoys privileged views and a woodland situation.
You enter the house into a small hallway which in turn opens to the lounge with spectacular views towards the south and the river. French doors open out on to an L-shaped terrace, where you really feel as though you are in the tree-tops.
Off the lounge is a fitted kitchen, all appliances are included, and a conservatory with glass on 3 sides, permitting a flow of air and access to the outside. Also on this floor is a WC, master bedroom, dressing room / study / occasional bedroom, shower room and a bathroom.
On the top floor, is a 3rd bedroom, with a truly fabulous view over the River Dordogne to wake up to, (see image). This room has the benefit of air conditioning for the summer months.
On the lower ground level, is a fully independent apartment comprising of a kitchenette, large bedroom, and a large bathroom, equipped for washing machine & dryer etc. There is also a wine cave and a couple of very useful storage areas.
Outside, there is a lovely swimming pool to enjoy, surrounded by decking. There is plenty of off-road parking for several cars. Low maintenance gardens, (no grass), with very mature trees. The property is approached via a quiet lane and there is only one more house beyond the entrance / access to this property, so it is really peaceful.
The old town of Souillac is made up of many narrow streets whose lay-out date back to the Middle-Ages. They lead to the ‘Place du Puits’ where in days gone by, the inhabitants would find their water. The market hall has been listed as a historical monument. The Dordogne river acted as a strategic link between the Auvergne and Aquitaine. Early trade was based on the exchange of goods: wines coming up from Bordeaux and salt from the Atlantic were exchanged for wood from the Massif Central. The navigation using towpaths from Libourne and Bergerac ended at Souillac.
Souillac is easily accessible by car from Paris (5 hrs), plus Bordeaux and Toulouse, via the A20 and A89 autoroutes. There are Intercité trains from Paris-Gare d’Austerlitz, (4 hrs 40) to Souillac, and there is a good choice of airports – Brive / Vallée de la Dordogne, Toulouse, Limoges, Bergerac and Bordeaux.
